Last week was a busy week on the farm with lots of late-night barn checks as we waited for two of our Nigerian Dwarfs to kid. We had Maplewood Hill Top Candy due on March 24 and Sundaze Farm Maizey due on March 28th.
NOTE: We’ll begin contacting individuals on our waiting list about these kids in a couple of weeks. We like to make sure everyone is healthy and growing steadily before we begin accepting deposits.

Sundaze Farm Maizey x Hills of Highland Eyrie Moon – Twins (1 Buck, 1 Doe)
Maizey unexpectedly kidded first, in the early morning on her due date. This was her second freshening and she gave us twins. We weren’t present for the birth, but she did great on her own!

First up was a beautiful buckling (above) weighing in at 3.7 pounds. He’s a dark buckskin with a white belt and white markings and his eyes are a light brown. He’s a sturdy little guy and has a very calm disposition. He is not registerable (as his mother is not) and will be wethered to go to a pet-only home.

Maizey’s second kid was a petite doeling (above) weighing in at only 2.5 pounds. She’s black with a white poll and one white spot on her right side, frosted ears and nose, and blue eyes. Don’t let her tiny stature fool you though! She’s a spunky little girl who is always bouncing and ready to play. We have been calling her “Dotty” or “Dot” which seems to suit her perfectly! Because her mom is not registered, she will not be registerable either, but she will make a wonderful pet or family milker.

Maplewood Hill Top Candy x Hills of Highland Eyrie Moon – Single Buck
Candy threw us for a loop this year. This was her fourth freshening and just when we thought we were used to her routine, she decided to change things up! In past years, she’s always kidded close to her due date, and gave us twins (1 boy and 1 girl). This year, she went six days past her due date, and kidded a single, large buckling!

Candy’s handsome boy (above) weighed in at 4.5 pounds at birth. He’s a handsome dark buckskin with a big
Upcoming Kiddings
Our next kiddings won’t be taking place till late-May/June:
- May 31: Toadsknoll Prairie Falcon x *B Bramblestone Tiger Tea
- June 12: Maplewood Hill Top Reese x *B Bramblestone CQ Tiger Tea
- June 22: Toadsknoll Black Merlin x *B Bramblestone CQ Tiger Tea
I’m still not 100% confident in the Mini LaMancha breedings (Prairie Falcon and Black Merlin), but we are keeping our fingers crossed.
Out of all our kiddings this year, I’m most excited to see the offspring from Reese x Tiger Tea. (No one tell my husband, but I may have to retain a doeling from that pair, if they have any!)
